If you're looking for a Mexican desert then you should know that there are simply loads to choose from. The flan is very popular and is basically caramel custard. You have a rich custard with a sumptuous lawyer of caramel on the top

Ingredients

1/2 cup sugar
6 eggs
3 cups milk
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon orange rind, grated
sliced fruit (Strawberries, Kiwi or other fruit)

Take a saucepan of skillet and heat up a half cup of sugar, keep stirring until melts and it should end up a dark gold color.

Take the pan off the heat and pour the mixture into a 4 1/2 cup metal ring mold. Move it about so that the sugar mixture evenly coats the bottom of the mold.

Now you should gently beat the eggs in a large mixing bowl. Then stir in the milk,1/2 cup of sugar, vanilla and the orange peel.

Take the ring mold used above and put it into another pan. Then pour your egg mixture into the mold and pour hot tap water around the mold so that it's 1 inch deep.

You can now bake the Mexican flan for an hour at 325F. Once it's been cooked you should place it on a wire rack and then chill for a few hours.

To take the flan out of the mold you should use a spatula and run it down the sides which will allow air in.

Take a large serving dish and place it over the mold. Flip it over and allow the flan to sit on the plate. Any remaining caramel can then be spooned on top. Take you sliced fruit and pile over the flan.

The Mexican flan is, of course, just one option you have when searching for something sweet and tasty. You could also look at cakes, candy, chocolate and cookies if you wish. Experiment and have some fun. You might be able to track down some authentic Mexican restaurants in your local area. Here you'll be able to try different dishes and get an idea of what you like and what they should turn out like.
